Halloween Festivities for Your Classes

September 20, 2024

Boy-o-boy do kids love October! From county fairs and colder weather to hot chocolate and hayrides-- what is not to love! And most of all, kids love Halloween! Although Halloween and trick-or-treating still look different from past years, that doesn't mean we can't have Halloween fun in our classes! Because is there anything that kids love more than dressing up and candy? With October 31 nearing, here are some ways that you can incorporate the season’s festivities into your facility.

Halloween Goodie Bags
One of the simplest ways to bring some Halloween fun into your school is by distributing Halloween goodie bags to your kids at the end of class. Not only is doing this enjoyable for your students but it also encourages safe and hygienic practices.

Outdoor Pumpkin Decorating Competition
Pumpkin decorating is a Halloween classic that can be done outside! Invite your kids and their guardians to gather and decorate pumpkins together. Pick a theme such as Disney, Animals, Dia de Los Muertos, or School Pride (for football season). Let students or staff vote on their favorites pumpkins.

Don't have outdoor space or don't want to hassle with the mess of a craft project at your facility? Have your students decorate the pumpkins at home and bring them into class.

Halloween Inspired Practice Wear
It is likely that your students are already dressing up for Halloween but do they plan to do so for class? Encourage creativity by hosting a costume contest where students come up with a costume that can be worn during class. Halloween costumes don’t have to be restricted to something bought from the store. A black leotard, black tights, and face paint whiskers make an excellent black cat!

Halloween Music for Warm-Ups
Incorporate some fun spooky tunes into your warm-up routines. Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is guaranteed to bring a smile to your students' faces. There are a lot of Kids Halloween playlists on Spotify, Apple Music, and Pandora. Here are some of our favorite Halloween themed warm-up tunes:

Thriller - Michael Jackson
Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Jr.
Disturbia - Rihanna
Monster Mash - Bobby “Boris” Pickett
Somebody’s Watching Me - Rockwell
Torture - The Jacksons
Spooks - Louis Armstrong

Halloween Themed Workouts
Find creative ways to change up your workouts and routines to incorporate Halloween themes. Be creative! Turn a routine into a Halloween-themed game or explore fun Halloween workouts! For example, try a “Monster Mash Relay” where students race while doing monster walks or “Ghost Tag” where participants freeze in spooky poses when tagged. These fun activities will keep your students engaged and in the Halloween spirit!

Invite Students to Trick-or-Treat
Create a fun and festive experience by hosting a trick-or-treat event at your facility! This is a great way for students to enjoy the Halloween spirit, collect some candy, and bond outside of class. Plus, it’s an excellent opportunity for you to connect with your students' parents in a relaxed, enjoyable setting. Make your space a safe and exciting place for Halloween fun!
